We are very fortunate that we live in a country where we have so many choices.  However, when it comes to
determining what our bodies need to maintain good health most of us don't know where to start.  Just keep
in mind that diet is extremely important.  Many of the products we buy today have been sprayed with
chemicals or have added preservatives.  These toxins build up in our bodies and may eventually cause
disease and destroy our cells.  And because our soils have become depleted of the essential nutrients,
which our bodies need, a majority of us are deficient in essential vitamins, nutrients, and minerals.  Eating
organic foods is an essential part of obtaining or maintaining good health. Certified organic foods are
foods, which are free of chemicals, and preservatives, and have been grown in soils that have been enriched
with natural materials containing the essential nutrients our bodies need.

Besides water and a good diet, there are six things that the body requires to function properly.  Those six
things are as follows:

Enzymes – These are specialized proteins, which initiate every reaction in our body to include the
digestion of food.  Enzymes are also necessary for vitamin/mineral absorption, and to help balance pH
and reduce acidity. As we age, our bodies produce fewer enzymes.  When we cook foods we are also
destroying the enzymes necessary for digestion.  Consider this:  Many of our fruits and vegetables are
sprayed with chemicals, which are enzyme inhibitors.  What this tells us is that unless we eat organic foods, a
majority of the food we eat contains no enzymes what so ever.  Digestion plays a major role in our health.  If
we are not digesting food properly then we are not absorbing the nutrients that our bodies require to
function.

Fiber - Fiber works to help remove waste and toxins from the body.  Most of us don’t get enough fiber
from the highly processed foods we eat and because we don’t consume enough fruits, vegetables, and
whole grains.  You should get at least 30 grams of fiber per day.

Multivitamin/minerals - Although, you can purchase a synthetic low cost vitamin at just about any drug
store or major retailer, the body doesn’t assimilate synthetic vitamins.  Many times the body will not even
digest these vitamins and they will be eliminated from the body without having served their purpose.  When
choosing a multivitamin ensure that you are getting it from a quality source and that it is derived from natural
sources.

Probiotics - These supplements help replace and replenish friendly micro flora that are present in our
digestive and intestinal systems.  Often times this good bacteria is destroyed by the use of antibiotics,
chemicals and preservatives, and fluoride in our water.

Antioxidants - These are the body’s natural defense against free radicals.  Free radicals are unstable
particles, which cause oxidation in the body, which may lead to chronic illness and disease.

EFA’s - Essential fatty acids are needed for a variety of functions in the body.  Fats help transport
certain vitamins, help to regulate cholesterol metabolism, and are essential for healthy skin and for energy.
The body does not produce theses fatty acids and so they must be obtained through the diet.

So the next time you are looking for supplements just keep these things six things in mind.  Include these six
items with a healthy diet consisting of organic foods and water that is free of pollutants and you will have
established a strong foundation for good health.
